Class Announcements End of the school year4th grade is coming to an end, but that does not mean that learning is over for the year!!
Please help your student prepare for 5th grade this summer by requiring your child read every day. Visit the public library and be ask about the book they are reading. Who are the main characters; what is the plot/problem; what is the setting? Put aside a set time every day for your son/daughter to quietly read a book for 20-30 minutes. Also, keep them up on their math facts. Quiz them when in the car or over breakfast, it only take a minute to do one multiplication factor. Work on the ones they are weakest at (like the 6's, 7's, 8's and 9's) When at the grocery store, ask them to estimate how much a few of the items in the cart will cost; have them count the loose change in that jar on the counter; let them help you bake and use measurement. Have a safe summer...see you next year! MULTIPLICATION FACTSParents/Guardians:
Please take a few minutes each evening and quiz your student on a multiplication fact. To make it more fun for both of you, use a deck of cards and play "multiplication war" (your student knows this game) or take a pair of dice and roll the dice to practice the facts 1-6. Many students liked to be timed, and others love to play "face-off" (your student knows this game too). It is very important that they are strong with their facts, because it is a foundation for higher concepts in math. It is much easier to do complex multiplication and division, as well as work with fractions, measurement and area when they know these facts. Thank you for your help!
